I've been living on the web for a long time. Long enough to remember when "responsive design" was a new idea, and long enough to have a pretty good sense of where things are going next.

Based in Graz, Austria, I work across screen design, web development, and digital consulting. I have a strong bias toward actually getting things done. I don't hand off mockups and disappear. I figure things out and I build them.

My main gig is at Nuki Home Solutions, where I've helped shape Europe's leading smart access brand from the ground up. When Kickstarter launched in Germany in 2015, Nuki was one of the first campaigns on the platform and hit its funding goal in under nine hours, becoming the most successful project of launch day. The company has since grown to over 100 employees with over a million weekly active users. I lead a team of designers and sit in the company's leadership circle, but I still do the work every day: redesigning nuki.io, directing product videos, designing the app, the shop, the packaging. Everything visual that leaves Nuki has crossed my desk at some point.

Through Starflower, my personal freelance brand, I take on projects for clients big and small. When someone finds their way to me, it's usually because something isn't working. Their website is outdated, their analytics are broken, their Google presence is invisible, or they need something built from scratch. I listen, diagnose, and fix it. Hands-on, start to finish.

I also work with AI seriously. I use it daily to speed up my design and development workflow, I work directly with AI APIs to build new things, and I help clients figure out how to apply it to their specific situation. This space is moving fast and I intend to stay at the front of it.

Beyond making things, I've been teaching Interaction Design at FH Joanneum since 2015, working with master's students on screen design, real-world product thinking, and how to keep learning on your own. Teaching has made me a sharper communicator and a better designer.

I got my foundational values from a five-month internship at Information Architects in Zurich, working under Oliver Reichenstein. I left there understanding that web design is 95% typography, and that clarity is the hardest thing to achieve. I've been working toward it ever since.

I call myself a generalist, or a web native. I've done UX, UI, branding, front-end development, WordPress, analytics, API integrations, video direction, and teaching. Not because I couldn't pick a lane, but because the problems worth solving rarely stay in one.

If someone referred you here: good, that's how I prefer to find new work. The best next step is a short email.

Experience

Nuki Home Solutions

Design Lead — Jan. 2021 to Present

Nuki is Europe's leading provider of smart access solutions, with over 1 million weekly active users. As Design Lead, I'm responsible for all product-related design across platforms — from apps to web, ads to packaging. I lead a cross-functional design team focused on shipping clear, thoughtful, user-driven experiences. I also helped design and launch the multilingual, multi-currency webshop that powers a significant part of Nuki's revenue.

Up to Eleven Digital Solutions

Design Expert — Oct. 2013 to Dec. 2020

Up to Eleven is a company builder for mobile startups. I started as the sole designer and eventually led all design work across their portfolio, including products like sms.at, websms, and mysms — one of Europe's first cross-device messengers. I was closely involved in the early branding, UX, and product design for two spin-off companies that later launched independently: Nuki and Instahelp.

FH Joanneum — University of Applied Sciences

Visiting Lecturer — Oct. 2015 to Present

I've been teaching master's students the fundamentals of screen design since 2015, with a focus on real-world product thinking, app and web design, and the creative process. I believe in showing students how much they can learn outside of traditional education, and how to stay curious and self-driven in a fast-changing field.

Starflower

Freelance Web Designer & Developer — 2013 to Present

Starflower is my personal freelance brand, under which I work with clients across a wide range of digital projects — from local businesses to national banks. Design, development, consulting, and everything in between.

Information Architects

Design Intern — Feb. 2011 to Jun. 2011

As an intern at iA in Zurich, I worked on interactive prototypes and WordPress themes, learning the value of clarity and typography in interface design. During my time there, I put together an unsolicited redesign of Skype 5 for Mac that went viral and was featured on TechCrunch.

Master of Arts in Design — Oct. 2011 to Jun. 2013

Focus areas: Typography, Graphic Design, Photography, Web Design, Programming, Interaction Design, Usability, Print Production, Visual Communication.

A full-stack design role spanning brand, product, UX, front-end, and video. I've helped shape Nuki's visual language as the company grew from a Kickstarter hit to Europe's leading smart lock provider.

Nuki.io Redesign

Nuki.io Redesign

UX/UI Design

Led the complete redesign of nuki.io and its multi-currency webshop. Focused on speed, clarity, and user trust. Improved the checkout flow to reduce friction, localize more effectively, and better reflect product complexity. Worked closely with developers to balance ideal design with technical constraints.

Nuki App

Nuki App

Product Design

Designed an experience that gets out of the way — because the best smart lock app is one you rarely need to open. Focused on a calm, intuitive interface that builds trust during onboarding, then fades into the background through features like Auto Unlock.

Smart Lock Pro Product Video

Smart Lock Pro Product Video

Creative Direction

Led creative direction for Nuki's most ambitious product launch video, crafted fully in-house with our 3D/motion designer. From storyboarding to final polish, I shaped the story, tone, and pacing to balance engineering precision with cinematic clarity.

Nuki Packaging

Nuki Packaging

Design

Shaped the packaging across multiple product generations, balancing technical requirements, unboxing experience, and brand cohesion. Collaborated closely with marketing and product teams to ensure every detail felt intentional, from dielines to typography.
